This is the last one of this series... I hope you have enjoyed them!
“The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling.” ~ David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest
Hello, it's Jackie! Rue from Euphoria goes through several days of depression so I thought to offer you an incredible novel that gives you some insight into this monster of a medical illness. (The pictures are not related to quote, they're just pictures of the outfit inspired by the character; which, I'll be discussing down below.)
Rue Bennett is the protagonist of the first Season of Euphoria as well as our beloved 17-year-old recovering drug addict who is having a really hard time figuring out herself and her place in this existence.
Fresh out of rehab, Rue has no intention of giving up drugs but her meet cute with Jules, the new and intriguing girl from the city, brings her what everyone searches for in life... hope.
Rue is always pale and sickly due to the after-effects of her drug addiction and lack of care from her mental issues, making her the antithesis of her duality, Jules. Her style doesn't go beyond darkness and comfort; baggy shirts and shorts are her go to and her father's hoodie is her staple. She doesn't wear makeup but when she does it's usually smeared and glossy, giving the effect of tears.
